The one place I always return whenever I am in bolivia, also the only one that has a real concept of meat temperatures, since I can never get mid-rare anywhere else.
I had the fish fish and enjoyed it very much. My friend had some steak and enjoyed it also. Good atmosphere but can get crowded and a bit noisy
The food is good and tasty, the servers are very nice and welcoming, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Overall, it’s a good place, but it’s far from being the best steakhouse in Bolivia. When compared to its peers like Tinto and El Arriero, El Fogón del Gringo still falls short in a few key areas. First, upon entering the restaurant there isn’t enough staff to greet customers. This creates a line of people standing around confused and unattended, with no clear procedure for seating. Second, service at the table can be slow. The waiters and staff are genuinely friendly, caring, and attentive once they arrive, but the restaurant seems understaffed and the team appears overworked, which impacts service speed. Third, the food itself is solid - good chorizo, morcilla, and steak cuts. However, I wouldn’t say it’s the best meat in Bolivia. For higher-quality cuts and consistency, El Arriero is a better option. While El Fogón del Gringo promises good food, the meat can sometimes come overcooked or undercooked, and the medium doneness hasn’t been perfected yet. Finally, there is a hidden service charge (around 7–10%) added to the bill without prior notice, and it’s not clearly explained what it’s for. On top of that, customers are still expected to leave an additional 10% tip, which creates confusion about the purpose of this extra charge.
