Japanese Restaurants in Bolivia

If you’re craving Japanese food in Bolivia, you’re in luck,there are some surprisingly good spots, especially in La Paz and Santa Cruz. And no, it’s not just sushi here. Yes, sushi is popular, but you’ll also find ramen, tempura, and even a few Japanese-style yakitori places. One of my favorites is Sakura Sushi in Zona Sur, La Paz, which feels more relaxed than some of the flashier joints downtown. The fish is fresh despite Bolivia’s landlocked nature , they get daily deliveries via air from coastal countries, so don’t worry about quality.

Santa Cruz has its own scene with places like Edo Sushi Bar, where locals swear by the miso soup in winter and the spicy tuna rolls all year round. Heads up though: Japanese restaurants here don’t always open late. If you’re planning dinner, try to get there before 9 pm or you might miss out.

A little tip: if you want authentic flavors with a local twist, see if they’re serving sake or shochu from Bolivian micro-distilleries. It’s a cool way to taste something unique alongside your meal.
