Description

Day 1 Train Cemetery - Colchani - Salar de Uyuni - Incahuasi Island Train Cemetery We begin the tour visiting an open-air museum of the Old Train Cemetery that is located on the edge of the city; where we can remember and imagine the glorious mining era of the region. We will visit the salt hotel Colchani In the town of Colchani we can see how the locals take part of the extracted salt and, letting themselves be carried away by their imagination, use it in the production of handicrafts. Creating different things such as photo frames, jewelry boxes, local animals and other accessories that capture the Andean landscapes. You can also find beautiful textiles, traditional weaving and functional or decorative ceramics. Salar de Uyuni The wonderful Salar de Uyuni, known as the largest salt desert in the world, is like a mirror that reflects the sky. Surrounded by mountains and volcanoes that reach 5000 meters above sea level. Where on our way we can observe fantastic optical illusions that are accentuated in the rainy season and also the “Eyes of Water”, small salt eruptions that will help us understand the formation process of this infinite sea of salt. We will also visit the “Hotel de Sal”, the first of its kind, which currently functions as a museum. Incahuasi Island We arrive at Incahuasi Island in the center of the salt flat, where we can observe large populations of cacti, sea rock fossils, local fauna and spectacular views of the salt flat from the highest point, an extraordinary viewpoint, an extraordinary sunset. Then we will go to the hostel located at the foot of the Tunupa volcano (5,432 meters above sea level) in Jirira or Hotel Los Flamencos in the town of San Juan, where we will rest until the next day. Day 2 Tunupa Volcano This day we are going to need a little physical effort, for that we are going to have a good breakfast and then we leave early towards the Tunupa Volcano, which has various colors, ranging from orange to different shades of brown due to the minerals. The volcano is located a few kilometers from the shore of the salt flat and its name is from the Andean deity that means God of thunder and lightning. Our vehicle will take us to the end of the road at an altitude of 3,850 meters. From there we will walk for about 3 to 4 hours until we reach the viewpoint (4,700 meters) where we can see a magnificent view of the salt flat and lagoons where flamingos, ostriches, foxes and flora that can survive in this rare and unique ecosystem are home.
