Description
Start the tour from the oldest part of Sucre with a visit to the Museum of Recoleta. Within it lies the Convent of the Franciscans, a wondrous place exuding peace and tranquility. Its three colonial courtyards, the majestic thousand-year-old tree bearing witness to the city's colonial and republican history, the intricately carved wooden choir of the church, and a marvelous collection of colonial and republican paintings await exploration. Descending through the city's historic streets, they proceed to the Santa Clara Museum, one of Sucre's most mystical sites. The high choir displays works by painters such as Bernardo Bitti, Gaspar Miguel de Berrio, and Melchor Pérez de Holguín, along with cedar wood sculptures. The museum's treasure is a restored 17th-century organ, played on special occasions. Visitors can also explore the crypt where nuns were buried in past centuries, up until 50 years ago. Additionally, one can visit the church and stroll through the nuns' cloister. The tour concludes with a visit to the Museum and Convent of San Felipe de Neri, an ostentatious representation of the Catholic Church's influence in the flourishing American society.
