Great first impressions, gradually eroded into a massive disappointment. Unfortunately I cannot recommend. Beware: - Arranging an airport transfer took several attempts: persistent WhatsApp messaging eventually worked. - Our room was very cold, the electric heater made little difference. - We were given a front facing room, traffic noise was a problem. Quiet between 11.00pm and 5.30am. - “The best view of Sucre” from the rooftop bar is a massive over-statement. Loud music, and poor quality food didn’t help. - The breakfast waiter sneezed into his tissue, wiped his nose, dropped the tissue into a waste bin and then proceeded to transfer bread, using his unwashed hand, into the buffet bread basket. - On check out, we were accused of taking a towel and payment was demanded. We opened our suitcases to prove that this was untrue. - The waiter (yes, the same one) who checked our room on checkout took the tip we had left for the cleaning maid. The “good” - Very large, spacious rooms - magnificently furnished. - Comfortable bed with good quality bed linens. - Powerful shower with lots of hot water. - Excellent location close to all the major sites and some great restaurants
loved this place , i stayed there last month throughout long journey exploring bolivia , i arrived there veer sick recovering from pneumonia and altitude sickness . the hotel is beautiful it’s like stepping back in time in old spain , we stayed in the presidential suite and was very happy with the decor and service , the restaurant is great , the hotel staff very courteous and helpful however i wasn’t too keen on the spa , the sauna wasn’t working , you have to reserve it in advance , can’t use it while someone is getting a facial because it makes noises that’s stuff i think they need to improve on . i booked a massage they didn’t have a facialist the therapist was great i can tell she’s good at what she does however she was stressed out and in and out of the room to take online calls , the room was cold they had no shed or blankets to lay under she ended up using my robe , they had no spa spa sandals , and someone ( hotel staff ) kept knocking on the door to remind her she needs to wrap it up not knowing she started late because she was on the phone . i tipped her well as she’s good at her job but this wasn’t a relaxing experience they need to have the room ready for a relaxing experience and stop interrupting besides this is give them a 5 star
We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Santa María la Real in Sucre. The colonial architecture and rooms create a charming, authentic atmosphere. The staff were incredibly kind and super friendly. Breakfast was small but prepared with care, which I really appreciated. The highlight for me was the stunning rooftop bar—amazing cocktails with a great view. However, there could be more vegetarian options.
