Description

Day 1: Culture and Nature Depart early from Sucre and head toward Tarabuco and the nearby community of Candelaria. Visit a local weaver who demonstrates the traditional Yampara textile techniques, including natural dyeing, symbolic patterns, and the social meaning behind each piece. Purchase responsibly from cooperatives, supporting local artisans. Continue with a short stop in Tomina’s plaza, ideal for photos and a brief immersion into small-town life. From there, the road takes you toward Villa Serrano, where you make a scenic stop and enjoy a short walk to the “Mirador Letras,” offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. Next, head to Nuevo Mundo and La Pajcha, where a light hike takes you to two cascading waterfalls surrounded by lush forest. Depending on the season, swim in natural pools or simply enjoy a moment of relaxation and photography. Given road conditions in the rainy season, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. In the evening, choose between two overnight options: lodging in eco-lodges near La Pajcha for a nature-focused experience, or continue to La Higuera to spend the night in the historic “Casa del Telegrafista,” a simple but meaningful accommodation that has hosted many travelers following the Che Route. Day 2: Hiking and Historical Memory Begin the day early with a hike through the Quebrada del Churo. This trail follows a mountainous path where Che Guevara’s final battle took place. The walk offers rich biodiversity, scenic viewpoints, and opportunities to observe local birds. It is a contemplative journey that combines natural beauty with historical resonance. Continue toward Vallegrande, with stops at archaeological sites along the way. See ancient rock paintings and the remains of pre-Columbian and Inca constructions, while your guide explains their cultural significance. Upon arrival in Vallegrande, enjoy a traditional lunch before beginning the Che Guevara Memorial Circuit. This guided visit includes the Mausoleum, the Hospital Señor de Malta (known as “La Lavandería,” where Che’s body was displayed), and the old airstrip used in 1967. Depending on timing, the tour may also extend back to La Higuera to visit the school-museum where Che spent his final hours. Each site provides historical context and reflects on the events of the guerrilla campaign. The journey concludes with a late afternoon return to Sucre.
