Description
DAY 1
Our expedition begins at 10:30 a.m. (collection coordinated with our team). First we visited the 'Train Cemetery', an open-air museum of 19th century locomotives with great historical importance for Bolivia. Next, we travel to the small town of Colchani, famous for its alpaca and vicuña crafts, and its salt miners. Colchani is also home to the only salt hotels in the world, such as Palacio de Sal and Luna Salada.
We entered the salt flats around 12:30 to see the 'Salt Eyes', 'Salt Crystals' and the 'Dakar' statue. We visited Incahuasi Island, a coral island with giant cacti and the best views of the Salar de Uyuni, for 50 minutes. Then, our driver will take us to a secluded spot to take perspective photos and enjoy the sunset with a toast.
We returned to Colchani to stay in a 4* plus salt hotel, with spa and activities. We finished the day with a buffet dinner at the hotel at 9 p.m.
DAY 2
We start the day with a delicious buffet breakfast at the hotel. Next, we visited the main viewpoint of the Ollagüe Volcano to observe fumaroles and explore petrified lava formations. The landscape becomes more arid, resembling Mars. After crossing a forest of rocks, we visited four mountain lagoons, two of them with flamingos. We take photos at each stop, while the guide explains the region to us and prepares lunch at Laguna Hedionda.
We continue exploring the Siloli desert, with its surreal landscapes, wind-carved stones and wild vicuñas. We finish at the Hotel Tayka del Desierto 3* superior, managed by locals, where we rest, admire the sunset and enjoy a local dinner.
DAY 3
En route to Laguna Verde, on the border with Chile, we will visit the impressive Salvador Dalí Desert. This desert, with its unreal and colorful landscapes, honors the famous Spanish artist. It is an ideal place to observe vicuñas in their natural habitat.
We will enjoy the view of the Green Lagoon, whose turquoise waters are due to its high concentration of minerals and sunlight. We will have time to explore the area. Upon returning to Uyuni, we will make additional stops depending on the weather and enjoy a picnic lunch at a location chosen by the driver.
We will arrive in Uyuni at approximately 5:00 pm, where we will return the borrowed equipment and then take you to your hotel or coordinate transportation to the airport.
