Description
Embark on a 3-day adventure from Puno to La Paz, Uyuni, and back to Puno. Visit the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt desert in the world, and explore the colonial towns of Pomata and Juli.
Day 1: Puno - La Paz
Meet your guide in the center of Puno and cross the border from Peru to Bolivia. Stop for lunch on the way to La Paz. Arrive in the Bolivian capital and visit the city's cable car, the most important in South America.
Take a guided tour of the colonial neighborhood along the 16 de Julio and Mariscal Santa Cruz avenues to see the Church of San Francisco and the Plaza Murillo. In the square, find the Cathedral of Our Lady of La Paz and the Legislative and Government Palace.
Afterward, have free time for dinner before taking the bus to Uyuni at 8:00 PM.
Day 2: Salar de Uyuni - La Paz
Arrive in Uyuni in the early morning and walk to a local restaurant for breakfast. Take a jeep to the iconic Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt desert in the world. Stop at the Uyuni Train Cemetery, an open-air museum where you can see Bolivia's first locomotives.
Get off the jeep in the village of Colchani, near the salt flats. See how salt is extracted and visit the Playa Blanca hotel, built entirely of salt blocks. Stop for a traditional regional lunch and then head into the desert to the Incahuasi Island, located in the heart of the salt flats.
Have some free time on Incahuasi Island and in the salt flats to take photos before returning to the city of Uyuni. Have more free time to rest, shop, and have dinner before meeting again at 8:00 PM to take the bus back to La Paz.
Day 3: La Paz - Pomata - Juli - Puno
Arrive in La Paz at 5:00 AM and take another bus to Desaguadero to cross the border back to Peru. Stop for breakfast before heading to the Peruvian city of Pomata. When you arrive, visit the colonial church of Santiago Apóstol, one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the area.
See the incredible Cusco art inside the church. Continue to Juli, a city also known as Little Rome due to its large number of religious buildings. This city was also a center of evangelization during the colonial period. Visit the church of San Juan de Letrán or the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (depending on availability or the time of year), which were built by the Dominican and Jesuit orders.
