Description

Early departure from the city of La Paz to Sajama National Park. On the way, we will make several stops, the first at the famous Chullpares, ancient burial towers made of clay, straw, and stone built by pre-Hispanic cultures as places of burial and worship. In the distance, there are several burial towers in the area, generally quadrangular in shape. Inside there is a vault where Chullpas (shrunken human remains) were once placed. They are the materialization of the spirituality that existed at the beginning of the Aymara Lorddoms. The second stop will be in Curahuara de Carangas, where we will hike among giant rock formations. This town is also home to the so-called 'Sistine Chapel of the Altiplano,' a 17th-century colonial church famous for its murals and frescoes depicting biblical passages and scenes from everyday indigenous life. Considered a jewel of mestizo Baroque art, it has been declared a National Monument. We will then continue our journey until we reach Sajama National Park, home to Bolivia's highest snow-capped mountain, which stands at 6,542 meters. This snow-capped mountain requires good acclimatization to the altitude. It is also a protected area in the Bolivian Altiplano and is known for being Bolivia's first protected area. We will visit its spectacular geysers, which are hydrothermal springs that periodically emit hot water and steam into the air, and the keñua forest—the tallest trees in the world at the highest altitude, a wooded area where they try to demonstrate with their form the effort to survive in a very frigid and desert-like place. We will enjoy the hot springs in a unique natural setting to relax during the entire journey. Finally, we will return to La Paz at approximately 10:30 p.m.
