Festivity of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Sucre

Officially the festival in Sucre begins on the second Friday and Saturday of the month of September last September 8. However, days before a series of unique events take place, with a lot of symbolism.

On Tuesday night takes place the ceremony of the candlelight walk that consists of a pilgrimage with the Virgin of Guadalupe on her back. Several fraternities, schools and groups of children and senior citizens participate. The walk starts at the former train station and ends at the Cathedral. Those who can, carry lighted candles and there is an air of great devotion during that night.

The birthday of the Virgin of Guadalupe, patron saint of the Chuquisaqueños is September 8. Bolivians affectionately call the virgin 'Mamita Gualala'. Sucre is home to the famous Cathedral of the Virgin of Guadalupe. The cathedral is filled with flowers and hundreds of visitors who come to congratulate the virgin on her day.''

With the participation of more than 100 fraternities between Friday and Saturday of pilgrimage towards the metropolitan cathedral of the city where the Virgin of Guadalupe waits for her devout dancers.
