Description
The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel or Uyuni bus terminal around 10:30 AM. The first stop is the Train Cemetery, an open-air museum of historic locomotives and wagons, reflecting the region’s railway past and offering unique photo opportunities.
You will then enter the vast Uyuni Salt Flat, visiting natural salt formations called 'salt eyes' and the Dakar monument, commemorating the famous international rally. The salt flat’s bright white expanse creates a perfect backdrop for creative photography.
Next, the tour includes a visit to Incahuasi Island, known for giant cacti up to 10 meters tall. This island is the largest islet in the salt flats and managed by local authorities. Visitors can pay an optional 30 Bs. entrance fee to access a marked trail for panoramic views of the salt flat, sky, and cacti. Note: Incahuasi Island visits are not available during the rainy season (January to March).
In the late afternoon, the tour moves to water mirror areas where the salt flat reflects the sky, creating an effect of walking on clouds. After sunset, you will stay overnight at a 3-star salt hotel.
On day two, after breakfast, the tour departs around 9:30 AM to visit Pulacayo’s Mining Museum to learn about Bolivia’s mining history. The next stop is the colonial church in Tomave, set against Andean landscapes.
The afternoon includes time to relax in natural hot springs, observing local highland wildlife such as vicuñas, llamas, and sheep. The route continues to Laguna Verde, Laguna Orko Kasilla, and the Nuevo Mundo area, passing through serene desert landscapes before concluding the tour.
