Description
The tour begins with a hotel or bus terminal pick-up around 10:30 AM. The first stop is the Train Cemetery, an open-air site housing historic steam locomotives and wagons that showcase the region’s railway heritage. This site offers unique photo opportunities and insight into Uyuni’s past.
Next, the tour enters the vast Uyuni Salt Flat, crossing natural salt formations known as salt eyes and visiting the Dakar monument, commemorating the international rally race. The extensive white salt surface is ideal for creative photography and visual perspectives.
Incahuasi Island is then visited, except during the rainy season (January to March). The island contains giant cacti up to 10 meters tall and features a visitor center managed by local authorities. An optional entrance fee of 30 Bs grants access to marked trails with panoramic views of the salt flats and surrounding landscape.
In the late afternoon, the group moves to reflective water areas to watch the sunset, where the sky mirrors on the salt surface, creating a surreal landscape. Afterward, the group stays overnight at a 3-star salt hotel.
On Day 2, the tour departs around 9:30 AM after breakfast to explore further. Highlights include the Mining Museum in Pulacayo, revealing Bolivia's mining history, and a visit to Tomave community to see its colonial church set in Andean scenery.
The itinerary continues with a visit to natural hot springs for relaxation. Wildlife such as vicuñas, llamas, and sheep can be seen throughout the journey. The day concludes with visits to Laguna Verde, Laguna Orko Kasilla, and the Nuevo Mundo area, featuring striking desert landscapes.
