Description

Day 1: Departure is at 10:00 a.m. from the meeting point. The first stop is the Train Cemetery, featuring relics of 19th-century machinery. In Colchani, learn about the salt extraction process and shop for crafts made from salt or llama and alpaca textiles. Explore the vast Salar de Uyuni, observing salt piles and the Ojos del Salar (salt holes). Visit the only Salt Hotel (now a museum) and Incahuasi Island, known for giant cacti and panoramic views. Lunch is provided on the island. Overnight stay is at a salt hostel in Puerto Chuvica.

Day 2: Start at 8:00 a.m. by visiting the Ollague Volcano viewpoint to observe smoke from the active volcano. Visit the Cañapa, Hedionda, Honda, Chiarcota, and Ramaditas lagoons, which are habitats for flamingos. In the Siloli Desert, see the Stone Tree formation and continue to Laguna Colorada, the entrance to the Eduardo Abaroa Reserve. Overnight is at Huayllajara, a mountain refuge near Laguna Colorada.

Day 3: Begin early at 5:00 a.m. to visit geysers located at 4,964 meters above sea level. Enjoy a hot breakfast and relax in the Polques Hot Springs. Cross the Salvador Dalí Desert and visit Laguna Blanca and Laguna Verde at the foot of Licancabur Volcano.

Tour end options:

  • Conclude in San Pedro de Atacama with transfer to the Bolivia-Chile border (Hito Cajones)
  • Return to Uyuni, with stops at the Valley of Rocks in Alota and the town of San Cristóbal; approximate arrival in Uyuni by 6:00 p.m.
