Uyuni Salt Flats Full-Day Tour from Uyuni
This full-day 4x4 tour explores the Salar de Uyuni salt flats, suited for travelers interested in history, nature, and local culture.
Description
Begin with a visit to the Train Cemetery on the outskirts of Uyuni to see Bolivia's first locomotives and learn about their historical role. These rusted trains are shaped by the strong salt winds, creating a photogenic landscape.
Next, stop at Colchani, a small settlement known for salt crafts and textile art made from llama and alpaca wool—ideal for souvenirs. Continue onto the expansive white salt flats, photographing the “Ojos de Agua Salada” saltwater holes, a salt hotel-turned-museum, the Flags of the World area (bring your own flag to display for free), and a Dakar race monument.
Lunch is served near Isla Incahuasi (Fish Island). Afterward, hike to the island’s summit to view giant cacti and petrified coral rock formations. Use this time for creative perspective photos on the salt flats with your group.
The tour concludes with a sunset over the salt flats accompanied by a glass of wine. Return to Uyuni by approximately 7:15 PM.
