Description
The “World’s Most Dangerous Road” or “Death Road” offers a unique mountain biking adventure starting at La Cumbre at 4700 meters altitude. Riders descend rapidly along a twisting asphalt road with views of snow-capped peaks, grazing llamas, alpacas, and small villages. There are regular stops for photos, refreshments, and rest to prepare for the ride ahead.
The route then passes through a jungle section on a narrow dirt road precariously cut into the mountainside. This part descends 2000 meters through mist, low clouds, and dust, ending in the warmer, dustier area of Yolosa. The ride concludes with a visit to La Senda Verde Animal Refuge where riders enjoy a buffet lunch and may see native wildlife such as monkeys, Andean spectacled bears, capybaras, and various birds. This visit supports the refuge’s animal rescue efforts.
