Description
The tour starts early from a meeting point near La Paz, heading to Nevado Charquini, a prominent Andean peak at 5,390 meters.
Along the route, you will stop to view Huayna Potosí, Chacaltaya, Laguna Milluni, and a nearby mining cemetery. You may also spot local wildlife, including llamas and alpacas, while observing the region's biodiversity.
Upon reaching Charquini, the main hike begins. This trail lasts about three hours, adjusted to group pace and size. You start the hike at 4,750 meters, ascending to Laguna Esmeralda at approximately 5,024 meters.
Laguna Esmeralda is known for its clear, mineral-rich waters that reflect the surrounding mountains and sky. Here, you can rest and take photos of the serene landscape.
The hike does not include climbing the snow-capped summit but focuses on traveling to and from the lagoon through mountainous terrain. The ascent to the lagoon takes 1.5 to 2 hours, followed by a return hike of about one hour to the pickup point.
The full excursion concludes with transportation back to La Paz around 15:30.
