Description
Your first stop is Chucuito, a tranquil colonial village near Puno, home to the Temple of Inca Uyo. Here, dozens of stone phalluses in an open courtyard recall ancient fertility rites connected to agricultural cycles and offerings to Pachamama. Your guide explains the site's cultural history, from pre-Inca ceremonies to its role as an astronomical observatory.
Next, a scenic drive through the altiplano leads to Hayu Marka, or 'Village of the Spirits' in Aymara. A short walk takes you to wind-shaped sandstone formations resembling animals and human profiles. The focal point is the Aramu Muru portal, a 7-meter-high stone doorway carved into rock, known for its mystery and spiritual significance.
The tour includes a personal Andean ritual lasting about 1.5 hours, conducted by a local spiritual guide. Using coca leaves, flowers, seeds, and other sacred items, the guide creates an offering bundle dedicated to Pachamama (Mother Earth), Qota Mama (Mother Lake), and the Apus (sacred mountains). Guests place intentions on coca leaves before the offering is burned or buried. This ceremony blends cultural immersion with spiritual practice in a respectful, unhurried setting.
After the ritual, you can explore the surrounding stone formations, rest near the portal, or reflect quietly before returning to Puno.
