Description
Travel back 3,000 years on a full-day tour from La Paz to Tiwanaku, one of the most advanced pre-Inca empires in South America. After pick-up from your centrally located hotel, you'll travel for about an hour and forty-five minutes across the Bolivian Altiplano to the archaeological site.
Your visit begins at the Ceramic Museum, where you'll see vessels, plates, and ritual figurines that reveal the everyday life and beliefs of this culture. You'll then head to the Lithic Museum, home to the imposing Bennett monolith and colossal sculptures carved with a precision that continues to amaze archaeologists.
At the archaeological site, you'll visit the Semi-Subterranean Temple, the ceremonial platform of Katatayta, and Kalasasaya Square, where the Ponce Monolith and the famous Gate of the Sun stand, carved from a single stone with astronomical symbols. The tour ends at Puma Punku, whose blocks fitted together with millimeter precision have given rise to fascinating theories about its construction.
At midday, you'll enjoy an all-you-can-eat lunch with a vegetarian option before heading back to La Paz. A Spanish-speaking tour guide will accompany you throughout the tour.
